An internet-based meetingplace for scouts on Ã…land. My intentions with this site were to make the services of my own troops site available for the other troops on Ã…land. The site got positive responses from Ã…lands scoutdistrikt, the head scout organisation on Ã…land, and was therefore offered to them as their site in return for some economical support if needed.
The first version of the site was only running a few months before the fissc-server that hosted the site went down and was gone for months. Our marketed URL http://www.fissc.scout.fi/aland/ unfortunately depended on that server.
In 2002 the site reappeared and soon got some dynamic funtionality. I had learned some PHP thanks to the datateknologerna.org project and started designing a community site with user login and dynamic features, f.e. an event calendar and a web forum. Later on a photo gallery with browser upload ability was added.
In the Summer of 2004 Ã…lands scoutdistrikt applied for the domain scout.aland.fi, which is currently in use for Ã…SD Forum and some email functionality. Some subdomains are also in use pointing at various scouting websites related to Ã…land.
